8 ways to curate your life towards sustainability
consume less: that means shopping less but also scrolling SM less
shop second hand: and yeah, I mean for everything (within reason, I still buy new underwear)
tailor your clothes: revolutionary, I know
recycle properly: every county is different
compost: food should not not not go in the trash
eat animal products less: or not at all would be great
in tandem with #6, eat less processed foods: a lot of vegan alternatives are packed with highly processed soy, which is definitely not helping the situation
shop bulk: and no sorry, I don’t mean Costco, I mean Whole Foods, Sprouts, farmers markets, etc. Take your jar or muslin bag to the store and not only eliminate plastic from your shopping but save $$$.
How to shop second hand
(without having an anxiety attack in the crowded aisles of Goodwill)
i’m going to lead with the least common but most powerful: clothing swaps. whether you find one or host one, its all free and promotes a circular economy.

depop is my fav, you’ll find more funky individual things
thredUP is for your more conservative goodies *$10 on your first order
poshmark for your trendier items or brands *use code LYNSEAROHDE for $10 off your first order
fb marketplace for literally anything. I focus on furniture, but be prepared to meet up with some strangers…
offer up for pretty much anything, the only difference is it offers shipping from out of state, so you don’t have to do a sketchy meet up in order to purchase
estatesales.net - if you’re into that kind of thing
there are plenty more that I don’t have as much experience with: relovv, the realreal, let go, mercari, chairish, 5miles, decluttr, and more
“alexa, where’s the nearest tailor?”
$30 or so for a good hem, taper, and taking in the waist sounds good to me. now you’ve got custom fitted pants…for likely less than $50 all-in.
subscription boxes: I have yet to find one that is truly sustainable, not outrageously expensive, and cute. but thred up does have a subscription box option that starts at $10 if you want to try it out. I ended up sending all of my items back, but it only cost me $10 to try it. *$10 on your first order
clothing rentals: okay, so this is at the bottom of the list for a reason. it’s not the most ideal environmentally but it’s heading in the right direction. There are a handful of options out there, but I’m not going to link any yet. I’m still on the fence if there’s a truly sustainable option available yet. Most are still money hungry and wasteful, but it’s definitely the lesser of two evils if you vow to give up your F21 and H&M addictions. *no judgement
3 Sustainable Beauty Tips
learn your body - use daysy or another basal tracking technology to prevent or plan pregnancy. those BC packets always end up in the trash. and don’t forget about eco friendly condoms
essential oils - are you team YL or team Doterra? it doesn’t really matter, try these out rather than jumping for Tylenol or Tums. *you will need to contact a consultant to order, I have recommendations if you don’t know anyone.
eat real food? I know sounds crazy right, but most of us have skin reactions from what we eat.. Instead of breaking the bank for that steroid cream or special face wash, try detoxing cheese for a few weeks.
